ABOUT US

Breakfast at Cinema Training and Consulting LLP is an initiative aimed at utilising the moving images for individual growth and enhancing group dynamics, We began our journey in 2014. Our work is rooted in our love for cinema. We primarily use films, combined with experiential learning activities, storytelling, and other methods to facilitate individual and group development. Since our inception, we have influenced individuals and groups across ages, economic backgrounds, institutions in various sectors, and geographical boundaries to bring about awareness and positive impact.
We continue to journey in the unknown, and design newer programmes and modules regularly.

SERVICES

Culture Messengers. Storytellers. Behavioural Trainers. Film Readers.

Cinema knows no boundaries of age, language, culture, class, educational background, or profession. Yes, certain finer nuances in any film might find more resonance with certain groups based on where the film comes from or what it is about, but human relationships, their motivations, and emotions echo universally. Our collaboration aims at designing customised programmes centered around specific needs of various groups.

FOR ORGANISATIONS

"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self"

Organisations are made up of individuals who follow their own patterns of executing work and interacting with others. Our methods of facilitation help individuals and groups become aware of these patterns and channelise them constructively towards organisational goals.

FOR LEARNING INSTITUTIONS

“Movies touch our hearts and awaken our vision, and change the way we see things. They take us to other places, they open doors and minds.”

We use cinema and other tools as triggers to help students understand their perspectives, choices and value systems. We believe in equipping our future world-shapers with the life skills that layered readings of cinema can help imbibe.

FOR NEWER AUDIENCES

"The most interesting movies are ones that you can build a relationship with. They don't tell you: think this, feel this. They give you room to interpret yourself into."

We have been designing and developing newer spaces where groups can explore different kinds of cinema. Film curation for festivals and other events, film appreciation, and media literacy have been at the centre of various engagements organised in this space.

TEAM

Our facilitators bring in observations from their work experience in the manufacturing, IT, financial services, print and online media, energy, wildlife conservation and outdoors and the government sectors, among others. Their exposure to filmmaking and film production processes, along with a study of film appreciation at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and National Film Archive of India (NFAI), Pune, and Whistling Woods International, Mumbai, and years of self study of the medium, has given them the ability to read cinema in several contexts.

Breakfast@Cinema has been actively using cinema as a medium of learning since 2014. All facilitators have been associated with filmmaking at various levels, enhancing their practical understanding of the processes involved and their own takeaways from the world of cinema.

Our facilitators have vast experience in the areas of process work, experiential learning, and appreciation of cinema. They combine this with their practice of studying and recording human behaviour data, and use their varied and immense industry experience to contextualise it in organisational and institutional settings, allowing them to draw out unique perspectives on group and individual connections. Engaging with children and adults alike, the facilitators help participants become aware of how they engage with the world around them.

TESTIMONIALS

We love it when you talk us up!!

Home: Testimonials

“Breakfast@Cinema”, the name was intriguing when we were introduced as co-facilitators for a series of workshops. Having worked with Shibangi and Abhinav, I have experienced abundant enthusiasm and an innovative approach to use cinema for varied goals of education, team building, and group dynamics. The duo’s strength lies in their ability to connect with participants young and old, in varied settings, their ability to discuss the socio-cultural milieu of the films, and to connect them seamlessly to the context of the workshop.

Prasanna Hulikavi

Founder, MetaStories & Ex Deputy Director, Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication

I have been fortunate to have Breakfast@Cinema conduct workshops for the last two years for our students from Classes VIII to XII and our ITI . The subjects they had to deal with were Gender Sensitivity and Culture. The dedication and effort they have shown in opening up the minds through the powerful medium of moving pictures and the sensitivity with which they have conducted the workshops for these students who come from low-income backgrounds, has truly been phenomenonal. The feedback from the children and teachers of the institution has justified my faith in entrusting these sensitive topics to them.

Neelam Solomon

President, Neena Thapa Group

Breakfast@Cinema has been unconditional in providing their support during the Children's Film Bonanza at our school. They have a thorough knowledge and understanding of good cinema which can be used in many different fields. Abhinav and Shibangi make a wonderful team and do the task, be it a workshop or training, with lots of dedication and commitment.

Rupali Dhamdhere

Principal, C M International School

The workshop was a very good time for me as I am someone who loves movies. The workshop was one of the best times I have had in any of the workshops throughout my days. I loved the ideas shared in the workshop, the way you guys taught me about cinema, everything was just amazing... I really am expecting another workshop like this one!!

Aniruddh Tiwari

Participant, Beyond the Classroom Workshop, Kathmandu

I would like to thank the team of Breakfast@Cinema for a very unique experience training my team. When I heard of the concept I was really unsure, but analytical questions and smart research forced me to give them one opportunity, and to be very honest I realised what I would miss if I wouldn’t have attended their training. They were great, straight to the point with some classic movies as medium of communicating the message.
Great concept and great people. All the best for future assignments.

Himanshu Sampat

Outbound Head, Cox & Kings, UAE

The Breakfast@Cinema team displayed a deep and intimate understanding of the nuances of the genre of Animation and Gaming. Both members are imbued with great passion for the subject. Their passion coupled with the vastness of the knowledge translated into an infectious enthusiasm amongst the participants.

It is my sincere belief that Breakfast@Cinema's workshops will be well received by a large cross-section not limited to cinema or animation professionals.

FAQ

The Answers You Need

Home: FAQ

WHAT DOES OUR NAME 'BREAKFAST@CINEMA' MEAN?

We call ourselves 'Breakfast@Cinema' in a nod to Blake Edwards' film Breakfast at Tiffany's, for cinema is to us what Tiffany is to Holly Golightly. Like Holly's realisation that the fulfillment of her dream lies within herself, we have come to a similar awareness through our exploration of cinema. We help our participants make connections between thoughts, feelings and actions at an individual level by helping process responses and reactions to on-screen audio-visual stimuli.

WHAT DO WE DO?

We provide educational workshops for students in schools and educational institutions, and training sessions for employees in organisations. We teach about cinema, and we teach using cinema.

WHAT ARE THE TOPICS WE COVER?

For our younger participants, we use cinema as case studies to impart values like empathy, and gender and cultural sensitivity, and self-development ideas like focus, managing failures, self and society, and many more. We also help enhance rational and critical thinking by supplementing school curricula with our workshops.

For adults, we use cinema to talk about developmental ideas such as self-awareness and unconscious biases, and management concepts like change management, conflict management, goal-setting and decision-making, challenging disruption, coaching and mentoring, interpersonal relationships, and other behavioural concepts.

We also teach film appreciation and filmmaking to all age groups.

It is our strong belief that any idea or thought can be expressed and enhanced using cinema. We have even taught Human Physiology using a movie!

HOW LARGE ARE THE GROUPS WITH WHICH WE ENGAGE?

Group size depends upon the intensity of the programme. We recommend a group of 40 for a medium-intensity programme. We have worked with 4 as well as 200 participants in a session.

WHAT IS THE DURATION OF OUR PROGRAMME?

It depends on the level of impact the stakeholder is seeking. We have done programmes ranging from 30 minutes (headlining for an international Sales Meet) to 3 days (gender and cultural sensitivity with adolescents).

HOW DO WE DECIDE UPON A TOPIC FOR A PARTICULAR GROUP?

We play the role of consultants from the time we begin discussions with the stakeholder to drive the right ideas and be able to arrive at the right design. Discussion with the stakeholder, an understanding of the participant profile, and the larger organisational/institutional context are key factors in our design and delivery.

WHAT IS OUR STANDARD PROGRAMME DESIGN?

A standard programme would have a film or films which trigger ideas or emotions around the theme, games and activities which help bring existing individual or group data to the fore, and stories to look at possibilities for growth and development. The elements vary based on participant profile and the duration of engagement.

WHAT KIND OF FILMS DO WE USE?

Any film which is available in the market -- features, animation, shorts, documentaries, etc. -- may be used depending upon the theme. We do not make our own films for training purposes, though we help participants create films in our filmmaking workshops.

WHAT DO WE REQUIRE FOR PROGRAMME DELIVERY?

We require a projector and suitable sound system for the venue, a space for interaction and moving about, a writing board, and a group of individuals willing to challenge themselves.

WHAT IS OUR LOCATION OF PROGRAMME DELIVERY?

We are based out of Pune, India, but we travel anywhere for preliminary meetings and for the delivery of our programmes.

HOW MUCH DO WE CHARGE FOR A PROGRAMME?

Please contact us so that we may understand your specific need and quote a price accordingly.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CONTACT US?

We are always available on email and phone. Please get in touch with us. We would love to hear from you.

CINEMA FOR YOUNG MINDS

The Hindu | July 02, 2018

"Cinema’s potential to educate has long been ignored because of its popular associations with mass entertainment and therefore the non-serious. While children by virtue of its inherent amusement value have shown little resistance, it is often for the very same reason that parents and decision-makers have deemed it unnecessary or even damaging. It is these perceptions that need to change and events like the Children’s Film Bonanza are important steps towards giving cinema its due place in the classroom."
